Hand & Wrist Treatment in Seoul Care in English
Wrist pain, numb fingers or a fall onto your hand can affect everything you do. Our orthopedic surgeons in Gangnam diagnose the cause and start with the least invasive treatment that works.
Gangnam Nanoori Hospital, at 731 Eonju-ro near Hakdong Station (Line 7, Exit 10), treats hand and wrist problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist fractures and TFCC injuries in its orthopedic Joint Center. Care usually starts with an exam and imaging, then splinting, physical therapy or injections, with wrist arthroscopy, nerve release or fracture fixation when needed. Hand and wrist problems we treat
The wrist is a complex joint of eight small bones, ligaments and cartilage that lets your hand move in many directions. Problems can come from injury, overuse or a squeezed nerve. Pain that spreads from the elbow may be covered by our Elbow Center.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Numbness and tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers from pressure on the median nerve at the wrist.
Wrist fractures
Distal radius fractures, often from a fall onto an outstretched hand, treated with a cast or plate fixation.
TFCC injuries
Tears of the cartilage and ligament complex on the little-finger side of the wrist, treated by Dr. Seo.
Wrist sprains and ligament injuries
Twisting or falling injuries that cause pain and instability, assessed with exam and imaging.
Overuse and tendon pain
Pain from repetitive typing, lifting or sport, often helped by activity changes and therapy.
Sports injuries
Wrist and hand injuries in golf, racket sports, climbing and gym training, managed with our Sports Medicine team.

Each page explains symptoms, diagnosis and your treatment options in plain English.
How we treat hand and wrist problems
We match treatment to the diagnosis and move to surgery only when it is clearly the better option. Your hands matter for work, sport and daily life, so your surgeon will explain each choice, the expected recovery time and what you can do while you heal. If you are only in Seoul for a short time, we plan around your travel dates.
Exam and imaging
Your surgeon checks movement, strength and sensation. X-ray, ultrasound, MRI or nerve tests are used when needed.
Splinting and activity changes
Resting the wrist in a splint and adjusting work or sport often calms pain and nerve symptoms.
Physical therapy
Dedicated therapists help restore motion, grip strength and confidence, both with and without surgery.
Image-guided injections
Ultrasound-guided injections can target inflamed tissue or the carpal tunnel precisely when symptoms persist.
Surgery when needed
Options include wrist arthroscopy for TFCC and ligament problems, carpal tunnel release and plate fixation for displaced fractures.
Relieving pressure on the median nerve
Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common hand problems. When simpler care fails, a release gives the nerve room.

Matching your symptoms to a likely cause
This is a general guide only. An exam is needed to confirm what is going on.
| What you notice | Possible cause |
|---|---|
| Tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers, worse at night | Carpal tunnel syndrome |
| Tingling in the ring and little fingers | Cubital tunnel syndrome at the elbow |
| Pain on the little-finger side of the wrist, clicking when twisting | Possible TFCC injury |
| Swelling, deformity and pain after a fall on the hand | Possible wrist fracture |
| Pain with repetitive use that eases with rest | Overuse or tendon irritation |
A wrist that looks deformed, or a hand that is cold, pale or numb after an injury, needs urgent care.

Common Questions
Do most hand and wrist problems need surgery?
No. Many improve with splinting, activity changes, physical therapy or injections. Surgery is mainly for displaced fractures, persistent nerve compression or structural injuries that do not settle.
What is a TFCC injury?
The triangular fibrocartilage complex is a cushion of cartilage and ligaments on the little-finger side of the wrist. Tears can cause pain and clicking with twisting. Many settle with splinting and therapy, while some need wrist arthroscopy.
I fell on my hand. Should I get an X-ray?
Yes, if you have swelling, tenderness over the bone, or difficulty moving the wrist. Some wrist fractures are easy to miss. See our page on wrist fracture treatment.
Can visitors to Seoul be treated here?
Yes. Our English-speaking coordinators can arrange a consultation and explain what can be done during your stay, and provide English records and imaging to take home.
Does Nanoori accept my insurance?
Foreign residents enrolled in Korean National Health Insurance (NHIS) can use it here. With international insurance, we provide billing documents for your claim; coverage depends on your insurer.
When is a hand injury an emergency?
Seek urgent care for an obvious deformity, bone through the skin, a cold or pale hand, or severe bleeding. In a life-threatening emergency in Korea, call 119.
